Dhaka, Nov 22 (V7N)- Battery-powered rickshaw drivers have blocked the Jurain rail gate in the capital, leading to a suspension of train services on the Dhaka-Padma Bridge route since 11 am on Friday.
According to Kamalapur Station Master Anwar Hossain, the rickshaw drivers in the Jurain area have occupied the railway line and begun their protest, halting train operations on that line. As a result, railway services from Dhaka via the Padma Bridge and to Narayanganj have been disrupted.
Hossain further clarified that train services will remain suspended on the Padma Bridge route until law enforcement agencies provide clearance.
Many passengers traveling from Dhaka to Faridpur, Jhenaidah, Kushtia, Jessore, and Khulna are currently waiting at Kamalapur Suburban Station due to the disruption.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Nazmun Nahar, Duty Officer of Shyampur Police Station, stated that the rickshaw drivers are carrying out the blockade and that police forces are on the ground working to control the situation. The situation has now reportedly started to return to normal.
