Dhaka, Jan 05, (V7N) – A daring robbery took place in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, as a group of thieves stole 159 vori (approximately 6.3 kg) of gold from the Crown Diamond and Jewelers store at the Shimaant Square Shopping Mall on Friday, January 3, at 1:00 PM.

According to CCTV footage analysis, a group of nine individuals, most of whom wore masks, appeared outside the jewelry store just before the shop’s sales staff left for Juma prayers. Two of the suspects used a cloth to cover the shop’s shutter while the others approached neighboring stores to keep staff distracted.

While the staff was away, two members of the group managed to cut the lock of the store's shutter and entered. In a span of just 7 minutes and 25 seconds, the thieves made off with the gold, leaving the store with bags full of stolen valuables.

The shop owner, Kazi Akash, reported the incident to Dhanmondi police, who have since launched an investigation into the theft. Authorities are analyzing the footage further in an effort to identify the culprits. The mall, which houses three jewelry stores, is also under investigation to determine whether anyone inside the premises may have been involved in the crime.

Dhanmondi Police Inspector (Investigation) Abdul Alim confirmed that no suspects have been identified yet and that the investigation is ongoing. The area around the store, including nearby clothing and cosmetics shops, was relatively quiet during the Juma prayer time, giving the thieves the opportunity to execute their plan.
