Dhaka, Jan 25 (V7N) — The Traffic Department has introduced new measures at Bijoy Sarani Intersection to alleviate congestion during peak hours. As per the revised traffic instructions effective from today, vehicles heading towards Mohammadpur, Dhanmondi, Khezur Bagan, and Manik Mia Avenue must take an alternative route.
Under the new system, vehicles approaching from Jahangir Gate will turn right before the entrance gate of the Chief Advisor's Office and proceed via Agargaon Link Road, BICC Intersection, or Agargaon Crossing to reach their destinations.
On the first day of implementation, many commuters faced confusion due to unfamiliarity with the new rules, leading to significant disruptions. Traffic police had to use microphones to manage the situation and guide both pedestrians and vehicles.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali stated in a notification on Thursday that the initiative is part of broader efforts to reduce congestion at critical locations such as Manik Mia Avenue and Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Avenue in Tejgaon Industrial Area. The measures have already shown positive results in other areas and are expected to streamline traffic flow around Bijoy Sarani.
The DMP urged all commuters to follow the new guidelines carefully to avoid inconvenience. Authorities are hopeful that these changes will bring long-term relief to one of Dhaka's busiest intersections.
