Gazipur, Feb 08 (V7N) – The Student Movement Against Discrimination has launched a series of protest programs in response to the violent attack on students at the residence of former Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque in Gazipur. The organization has issued a stern ultimatum, demanding the arrest of the attackers by 10 a.m. on Sunday.

The protest began with a rally at Rajbari on Saturday, followed by a procession that culminated in a road blockade in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Hasnat Abdullah, the platform's convener, and Sarjis Alam, the coordinator, led the demonstrations alongside a large crowd of students and supporters.

During the rally, leaders delivered fiery speeches condemning the attack and vowing to drive the Awami League out of Gazipur. Protesters demanded that all properties belonging to Awami League leaders and activists be seized and redistributed to the families of the martyrs and those injured during the July mass uprising.

Calls for Immediate Action

Arif Sohel, Member Secretary of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, accused the administration of complicity through inaction. “Our brothers have been bloodied. They were attacked, yet no one from the administration came to their aid. Therefore, we must prepare to defend ourselves,” he declared. Sohel also called for the removal of police officers he described as “allies of fascism” and urged for the appointment of new, younger officers. He further demanded that Awami League offices be sealed immediately.

The unrest stems from an attack on Friday night at AKM Mozammel Haque's residence in the Dhirashram area of Gazipur city. According to reports, the minister's relatives and followers assaulted a group of students, leaving at least 20 people, including bystanders, injured.

Escalating Tensions in Gazipur

In response to the incident, the Student Movement Against Discrimination organized the rally at Rajbari Ground at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Tensions remain high in the region, with protesters vowing further action if their demands are not met by the Sunday morning deadline.

Local authorities have yet to issue a formal statement regarding the protesters' demands or the status of the investigation into the attack. Meanwhile, the city remains on edge as both sides brace for potential escalation.
