Dhaka, Feb 26 (V7N)- Former local government representatives staged a sit-in protest in front of the National Press Club on Wednesday morning, demanding that local government elections be postponed until after the national parliamentary elections.
Public representatives from upazilas, municipalities, and city corporations across the country gathered for the demonstration, arguing that local elections under the current government would not be free and fair. They insisted that national elections should be prioritized before local government polls.
After the protest, the demonstrators attempted to march towards the Chief Advisor’s office to submit their memorandum of demands. However, police stopped the march near the National Eidgah, citing concerns over public disruption.
A delegation of protesters was later allowed to proceed and formally submit the memorandum.
Despite the police intervention, the protest ended peacefully without any major disruptions.
