Dhaka, July 31 (V7N) – July fighters and families of martyrs have gathered at Shahbagh intersection in the capital, staging a sit-in protest demanding the swift implementation of the July Declaration and the July Charter and their incorporation into permanent legal provisions.
The protesters assembled around 11 am on Thursday, bringing traffic in the area to a complete halt. In response, police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have been deployed to enhance security around Shahbagh.
The July fighters expressed frustration, saying that despite their repeated demands, the July Charter has yet to be officially issued. They emphasized that this charter is not merely a request but their right.
Members of the movement, including injured freedom fighters and families of martyrs, voiced their determination to continue the protest until their demands are met. They also warned that if the authorities fail to provide assurances regarding the charter soon, they will erect a temporary stage at Shahbagh to intensify their movement.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the sit-in continues.
