Dhaka, Jan 08 (V7N) – In a violent attack on Wednesday evening, Azizul Haque Mosabbir, a former leader of the Dhaka Metropolitan North Jatiotabadi Swechhasebak Dal, was shot dead near Panthapath, behind Bashundhara City, at approximately 8:30 pm. The attack also left another man, identified as Anwar Hossain, critically injured.

Tejgaon Division Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) Fazlul Karim confirmed that Mosabbir and Hossain were attacked by several unidentified assailants armed with firearms in a lane adjacent to Star Kabab in West Tezturi Bazar under Tejgaon Thana. Mosabbir sustained three gunshot wounds to the abdomen. Both victims were immediately rushed to BRB Hospital, where Mosabbir was pronounced dead. Hossain remains in critical condition and is receiving intensive care.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers fled the scene immediately after opening fire. No arrests have been made so far. Preliminary police findings indicate that the attack specifically targeted Mosabbir, though the motive is still under investigation.

Following the incident, dozens of Mosabbir’s political colleagues and BNP activists gathered outside BRB Hospital. Approximately 50 to 60 supporters blocked the road near Sonargaon Crossing, disrupting incoming traffic as a form of protest.

Police officials have confirmed that security has been strengthened in the area, and an investigation team is reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations. Local law enforcement is coordinating closely with Dhaka Metropolitan Police to prevent further escalation.

Mosabbir was a prominent figure in Dhaka’s volunteer politics, having served as the general secretary of the Swechhasebak Dal in the city’s northern division. His death has raised concerns over the rising incidents of political violence in Dhaka, particularly near commercial and high-traffic areas.

Authorities have urged political activists and the public to remain calm and have appealed to anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Police have assured that all measures will be taken to bring the perpetrators to justice and to ensure public safety in the affected areas.
