Dhaka, Sep 28 (V7N) – Light to moderate rainfall is expected across different parts of Bangladesh over the next 24 hours, with moderate to heavy downpours likely in some areas. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department provided this forecast on Saturday.

The forecast indicates that from 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, parts of Rangpur division may see widespread rain, while Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, and Sylhet divisions will experience isolated showers. A few places in Barisal and Chittagong divisions may also receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by gusty winds or thundershowers.

Dr. Omar Farooq, a meteorologist with the department, mentioned that the rain is likely to persist until September 30, with an increase expected from October 1. The downpour may continue for another three to four days after that.

The forecast also noted a potential rise in day and night temperatures across the country by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius.

The synoptic weather situation highlights that an extension of the monsoon axis is affecting Assam, through Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and central Bangladesh. A part of this axis extends to the northern Bay of Bengal, keeping the monsoon fairly active over Bangladesh and moderately strong in the northern Bay.

In the past 24 hours until 6:00 a.m. today, the highest recorded rainfall was 183 mm in Tentulia, Rangpur, while the lowest temperature was 21.9°C. Srimangal recorded the highest temperature at 34.5°C.

The trend of rain or thundershowers is expected to intensify over the next five days.
