Oct 12, V7N - Dhaka's air quality remained in the ‘moderate’ range this morning, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) score of 83 at 8:58 am, placing it 23rd on the global list of cities with the worst air quality. The top three cities were Baghdad (219), Hanoi (201), and Lahore (198), indicating much more severe pollution.

In Bangladesh, AQI is based on five pollutants: particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and ozone. While AQI scores between 50 and 100 indicate ‘moderate’ air quality, certain sensitive individuals may still experience mild health concerns.

Dhaka's air quality tends to worsen during winter and improve during the monsoon. Air pollution is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide, with the World Health Organization estimating seven million deaths annually due to pollution.
