Dhaka, Dec 22 (V7N) —Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, announced that district administrations, city corporations and the Department of Environment will intensify joint mobile courts to tackle hill cutting, air pollution and the use of banned polythene.
She said these as the chief guest at a discussion meeting titled "Preventing the Use of Banned Polythene in Chittagong and Reducing Plastic Pollution," held at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday.
The adviser emphasized the installation of warning signboards on hills, increased patrols and the issuance of letters to hill owners to curb hill cutting.
She warned that strict legal actions would be taken against violators.
Rizwana further said that a list of polythene manufacturers would be compiled to initiate legal proceedings against them.
She also stressed the need for mandatory barcodes on packaging and advocated for mobile court operations in markets and supermarkets.
Additionally, she called for increased vigilance to intercept trucks carrying polythene.
Representatives from government and non-government organizations, environmental groups, business leaders and media professionals from Chittagong attended the meeting virtually.
They called for stricter enforcement of laws and greater awareness to stop the use of banned polythene.
