Panchagarh, Nov 9 (V7N)- The mercury has started to drop gradually in Panchagarh, the country’s coldest district located at the foothills of the Himalayas. A slight chill is now being felt in the morning and evening breeze, signaling the early arrival of winter.
According to the Tentulia Meteorological Observatory, the country’s lowest temperature was recorded at 16.6°C at 9 a.m. on Sunday (November 9). The day before, the temperature was 17.1°C, indicating a drop of nearly half a degree within 24 hours.
Despite the chilly mornings and evenings, the daytime temperature still hovers around 30–31°C due to bright sunlight, creating a mixed weather pattern of warmth and cold across the district.
From dawn to dusk, dense fog blankets the surroundings, forcing schoolchildren, early workers, and tea garden laborers to wrap themselves in light sheets or towels to stay warm.
Jitendranath Roy, officer-in-charge of the Tentulia Meteorological Observatory, said,
“The temperature is gradually decreasing. It may drop to around 14°C by the end of November. After that, multiple cold waves are expected to sweep across Panchagarh and nearby areas throughout December.”
Weather experts said that cold winds from the north are causing an early onset of winter this year. The chill is expected to intensify across Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, and Dinajpur by early December.
