Panchagarh, Nov 25 (V7N) – The northern border district of Panchagarh, widely known as the "daughter of the Himalayas," is experiencing a sharp rise in winter chill as temperatures continue to fluctuate. Cold winds sweeping down from the north and high humidity levels have intensified the cold, causing widespread suffering, especially among poor and working-class residents.
At 9 am on Tuesday, the Tentulia Meteorological Observatory recorded the day’s lowest temperature at 12.8°C, the same as at 6 am. Humidity stood at 99 percent, with wind speeds of 7–8 km/h, creating an even stronger sense of cold in public life.
Although skies cleared by mid-morning and the sun shone brightly, locals said the significant difference between day and night temperatures has amplified the chill across the district.
In recent days, temperatures in Tentulia have been steadily decreasing. The minimum temperature at the same time on Monday was 13.4°C, while 12.6°C was recorded on Sunday.
With the cold intensifying, demand for winter clothing has surged in local markets. Pedestrians, day laborers, and outdoor workers have been particularly affected during early morning and late afternoon hours.
According to the Meteorological Office, the cold wave may persist for the next few days.
Rokanuzzaman Rokan, a weather observer at the Tentulia Observatory, said,
“The minimum temperature recorded at 6 am today was 12.8°C, and the same was recorded again at 9 am. This temperature may drop further next week.”
Officials advise people in the district to take precautions as the cold conditions strengthen heading into late November.
