At a cost of crores of Taka, the Bangladesh government has built 76 ponds and installed water plants to address the issue of clean food and water in the Pirojpur district. However, hundreds of households are left without the advantages because of improper upkeep. Aside from providing drinking water, the majority of the ponds are used for other reasons.

It is known that during the monsoon season, residents of seven subdistricts, including the Sadar subdistrict in the southern Pirojpur district, use rainwater; nevertheless, during the dry season, there is a serious scarcity of drinkable water. Due to the usage of river canal water at the time, several ailments, including stomach aches, were on the rise.

The pond is only permitted to be used as drinking water, and while a committee of locals was meant to maintain the pond's ecosystem so that it meets drinking water standards, it was never convened. Because of this, several ponds are used for fish farming, swimming, and domestic chores; the solar PSF water plant is also destroyed, and the pond sides are overgrown with vegetation.

The Badura government pond in Mathbaria is utilized for horticulture and fish agricultural purposes. There is no committee to maintain the ponds once they are dug, thus nothing more than careless spending of Taka is being done.

The pond is only allowed to be used for drinking water, and although a local committee was supposed to keep the pond's environment up to code, it was never met. As a result, ponds are utilized for swimming, fish farming, and household tasks; also, the solar PSF water plant is damaged, and vegetation has overtaken the pond walls.

Fish farming and horticulture are practiced at Mathbaria's Badura government pond. After the ponds are dug, there is no committee to maintain them, therefore public monies are being spent carelessly.

If the district council assigns the public health department the task, the package will be returned to the district council following the installation of water plants and the excavation of four or five ponds, according to Abdus Sattar of the Mathbaria Directorate of Public Health Engineering. The ponds' upkeep will be handled by the district council.

Teacher Subhas Chandra Daqua of Bhavanipur village in Indurkani claimed, "The local committee was not taken care of by the government after the pond in front of his house. I'm making every effort on my own to maintain the pond's quality."

"The public health department has constructed 76 ponds and installed solar PSF water plants on the instructions of the local government ministry, but no committee has been formed to take care of the ponds," stated Utpal Deuri, the district council's surveyor.

"I don't know anything about pond improvement; all measures will be taken if we receive instructions from the authority regarding maintenance," Asaduzzaman, the chief executive officer of Pirojpur Zilla Parishad, said over the phone to reporters.
