Dhaka, July 31 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in several southern regions of the country due to the influence of the active monsoon system.
In its latest bulletin issued on Thursday, the department said that Khulna, Barisal, and Chittagong divisions are expected to experience intense rainfall in many areas. This continued downpour poses potential threats of landslides, particularly in the hilly districts of Chittagong, Rangamati, Khagrachari, Bandarban, and Cox’s Bazar.
Authorities have warned that waterlogging may occur in parts of Khulna, Barisal, and Chittagong cities, disrupting daily life and traffic movement.
Coastal Advisory and Marine Warnings
The Met Office also highlighted that due to strong monsoon activity, the air pressure in the North Bay of Bengal remains high, prompting concerns of rough sea conditions.
As a precaution, local warning signal number 3 has been issued for Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra seaports. All trawlers and fishing boats operating in the northern Bay of Bengal have been advised to remain close to the coast and exercise caution.
Officials urge residents in affected areas to stay updated with local advisories, avoid landslide-prone zones, and take necessary measures to prevent accidents or flooding-related damage.
