Dhaka, Sep 29 (V7N): Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed announced today that a comprehensive proposal for the creation of a separate judicial secretariat will soon be submitted to the law ministry. This move aims to ensure the judiciary's independence.

On September 21, the chief justice first revealed plans for the establishment of the judicial secretariat, which he emphasized would safeguard the independence of the judiciary.

Speaking at a reception organized by the Faridpur Bar Association, the chief justice stressed the importance of the legal profession in society. "The most vulnerable members of our society turn to the courts for justice and to claim their rights. Lawyers have a moral duty to provide legal assistance to these individuals, and this duty must be carried out with compassion and humanity," he said.

He urged lawyers to view their profession as more than just a means of earning a livelihood, stating, "The true value of being a lawyer comes from upholding rights and promoting the welfare of society."

The chief justice also reminded those present that the court exists to protect human rights, a principle enshrined in the constitution. He cautioned that if lawyers fail to maintain proper ethical standards, the hard-won achievements of past movements could be undermined.

The event was presided over by Faridpur District Bar Association President Advocate Md Abdul Quader Mia, with Advocate Zahid Bepari serving as the moderator. Other notable attendees included District and Sessions Judge Md Zia Haider, Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Kamrul Hasan Molya, Superintendent of Police Md Abdul Jalil PPM (Service), Faridpur District BNP convener Advocate Shahjahan, Syed Modarres Ali Ichha, and Advocate Subal Chandra Saha.
