Dhaka, Dec 02 (V7N) — The state party has filed an appeal seeking to stay the High Court's verdict that declared 'Joy Bangla' as the national slogan of Bangladesh. The application was submitted to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday.

Additional Attorney General Barrister Anik R Haque confirmed to reporters that the appeal will be heard by the Appellate Division on December 8.

The case traces back to 2017 when Supreme Court lawyer Bashir Ahmed filed a writ petition requesting 'Joy Bangla' to be declared the national slogan. After deliberations, the High Court ruled in favour of the plea.

Subsequently, on February 20, 2022, the cabinet, led by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, approved the decision to recognize 'Joy Bangla' as the national slogan.

The upcoming hearing will determine whether the High Court's verdict will remain in effect or face further legal challenges in the country's highest judicial body.
