Dhaka, Dec 17 (V7N) — Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been identified as the "nucleus" of disappearances, torture, and murders carried out over the past 16 years, according to Advocate Mohammad Tajul Islam, Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal. The announcement was made during a briefing at the tribunal on Tuesday.

Advocate Tajul Islam stated that evidence of Sheikh Hasina's direct involvement in these incidents has been uncovered. The tribunal has asked law enforcement agencies to provide updates within two weeks regarding the court's directive to issue a red notice through Interpol for her arrest.

The Chief Prosecutor also revealed that the court raised questions about Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader's departure from the country despite an arrest warrant against him. The tribunal ordered law enforcement agencies to submit a report within 15 days explaining how he managed to leave the country after remaining in Bangladesh for three months following the warrant.

Additionally, the tribunal sought updates on the steps taken regarding bilateral agreements with India. Advocate Tajul Islam emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and will take a reasonable amount of time to conclude. He warned that anyone aiding individuals to evade the court’s directives could face legal action.

"We are working to finalize the investigation as quickly as possible," said Tajul Islam. "If anyone facilitates an escape despite court orders, legal measures will be taken against them."
