Dhaka, Jan 13 (V7N) — The High Court has dismissed a writ petition challenging the legitimacy of the interim government formed under Article 106 of the Constitution, based on the Supreme Court's opinion. In its observation, the court stated that the people of Bangladesh have accepted the interim government as legitimate, leaving no room for dispute.
The ruling was delivered on Monday by a High Court bench comprising Justice Fatema Najeeb and Justice Sikder Md. Mahmudur Razi.
Writ petitioner lawyer Mohsin Rashid, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling and announced plans to appeal the decision.
The petition had questioned the legality of the interim government's oath-taking process, which was conducted following a Supreme Court opinion. On August 8, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, led by then-Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan, provided a reference endorsing the formation of the interim government under Nobel laureate Dr. Yunus. The opinion paved the way for the President to administer the oath of office.
The High Court's dismissal reaffirms the validity of the interim government, emphasizing its acceptance by the nation. However, the petitioner’s decision to challenge the order suggests the matter may not yet be resolved.
