Dhaka, Jan 19 (V7N) — A temporary court adjacent to Keraniganj Central Jail has granted bail to nearly 200 accused in the explosives case who were previously acquitted in the Peelkhana murder case after completing their sentences. The bail order was issued after testimony and a detailed hearing. The next date for testimony has been set for February 10.

On Sunday morning, around 100 accused were brought to the court from Keraniganj and Kashimpur jails. Former Army Major Yusuf testified for the prosecution, marking a significant development in the long-standing legal proceedings.

Relatives of the accused gathered outside the prison from early dawn, anxiously awaiting the court’s decision. Many expressed relief and emotion as their loved ones were granted bail after spending 16 years in detention. These accused had been imprisoned under charges filed under the Murder and Explosives Acts following the tragic Peelkhana massacre in 2009.

The bail decision has brought an end to the prolonged incarceration of those acquitted in the murder case but still detained due to the ongoing explosives case. Their release marks a turning point in the lengthy judicial process, providing a moment of solace for their families.
