Dhaka, Mar 09 (V7N) – The High Court has directed the completion of the trial of the rape of an 8-year-old child in Magura within 180 days. The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal has been instructed to ensure the trial proceeds within the stipulated time.

A double bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury issued the order on Sunday (March 9).

Earlier the same day, the High Court also ordered the removal of all pictures of the rape victim from social media. The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) was directed to immediately implement the order.

Three days after the incident, the child's mother filed a case against four individuals at Sadar Police Station on Saturday. The accused are:

  • Sajib (18) – The victim's sister's husband
  • Ratul Sheikh (20)
  • Sajib’s mother, Zaheda Begum
  • Sajib’s father, Hitu Sheikh

All four accused have already been arrested.

The horrific crime took place in the Nijnanduali Charpara area of Magura town last Thursday. Police reports indicate that the child had gone to visit her sister’s in-laws’ house. There, she was brutally tortured by Hitu Mia when found alone.

As the child's condition worsened, she was initially admitted to Magura Sadar Hospital before being transferred to Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for advanced medical care.
