Dhaka, Mar 13 (V7N) – The Appellate Division has ruled that around 30,000 head teachers of government primary schools across Bangladesh will now hold the status of second-class gazetted officers in the 10th grade.

The verdict was delivered on Thursday (March 13) by an Appellate Bench led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed.

Earlier, on February 25, 2019, the High Court had directed that the pay scale of government primary school head teachers be elevated to grade 10, with gazetted status. This ruling applied to both trained and untrained entry-level posts, with retrospective effect from March 9, 2014.

However, when the state appealed against this decision, it led to obstacles in implementing the ruling, delaying the head teachers' promotion to grade 10. Repeated efforts to resolve the matter during the Awami League regime were unsuccessful, as the case could not be heard.

Following the change in government on August 5, the case gained priority in the Appellate Division. Lawyer Salah Uddin Dolan, who represented the writ petitioner head teachers, expressed satisfaction with the ruling, stating that justice had finally been served.
