Dhaka, Aug 31 (V7N) – A writ petition has been filed in the High Court challenging the candidacy of SM Farhad, the general secretary (GS) candidate of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) in the upcoming elections.
The petition was filed on Sunday morning in the bench of Justice SK Tahsin Ali and Justice Habibul Gani and is likely to be heard later today. Barrister Jyortimay Barua will represent the petition in court.
The writ was submitted by BM Fahmida Alam, Liberation War and Mass Movement Affairs Secretary of the Invincible 71, Indomitable 24 panel. The petition questions how Farhad, who was previously a member of the Chhatra League committee, is now contesting the polls from the Islami Chhatra Shibir panel.
The Invincible 71, Indomitable 24 panel consists of three left-leaning student organizations—Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, and the JSD-backed Bangladesh Chhatra League.
In this year’s DUCSU elections, Sadiq Kayem is contesting for the Vice-President (VP) post from Chhatra Shibir, while SM Farhad is running for General Secretary (GS). The elections are scheduled to be held on September 9.
