Dhaka, Oct 21 (V7N) — The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has resumed hearing the appeal against the verdict that abolished the caretaker government system in Bangladesh.
The hearing began on Tuesday (October 21) morning before a seven-member full appellate bench headed by Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed.
Earlier, on August 27, the Appellate Division had allowed an appeal challenging the previous ruling that scrapped the caretaker government provision, announcing that the matter would be reheard.
During today’s proceedings, Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed emphasized that the court does not intend to provide a temporary solution by reinstating the caretaker government. Instead, the Appellate Division seeks to ensure an effective and sustainable framework for the election-time government to prevent recurring political crises surrounding elections.
He added that the court aims to establish an arrangement that will have a long-term, positive impact on the democratic structure of the country.
The hearing is expected to continue in the coming days, with significant political and constitutional implications depending on the outcome.
