A complaint has been lodged in the Noakhali court against retired Supreme Court Appellate Division Justice Abul Hossain Mohammed Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik for making derogatory remarks about BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman.
The case was filed on Monday by Rabbiul Hasan Palash, the organizing secretary of the Central Committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Farmers' Association, at the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court in Noakhali.
According to the complaint, Chowdhury Manik allegedly made statements claiming that "Ziaur Rahman was not a freedom fighter; he was a spy for Pakistan." The case asserts that these comments were made with the intent to tarnish Ziaur Rahman’s personal and political reputation and were widely circulated through various media outlets.
Notably, during a July talk show on "Channel i" amidst student protests, Manik's remarks, along with misogynistic and offensive behavior, were witnessed by the public and went viral on social media.
Rabbiul Hasan Palash confirmed the filing of the case, and the court has scheduled a hearing for the matter next Wednesday.
