Savar, Jan 30 (V7N) - A violent clash erupted between two groups over a land dispute in the Banogaon area of Savar, resulting in 30 people, including the president of the Savar Thana BNP, being injured. Both sides have filed counter-complaints at the police station regarding the incident.
 
On Wednesday (January 29), a clash occurred in the Bangram area of Banogaon Union, involving BNP supporters of North Sea Eco City and Savar Thana BNP leader Saiful Islam.
 
Among the injured were Saiful Islam, Komar Uddin, Khondokar Mostak Ahmed Roni, Azmat Ali, Mosharraf Hossain, Dalim, Wasim Uddin, Idris Ali, Sayem Morshed, Makhbul Hossain, Rahul, and Amjad Ali, who received treatment at the Savar Upazila Health Center. Several seriously injured individuals were admitted to Dhaka's Sohrawardi Medical College Hospital.
 
Witnesses reported that the dispute had been ongoing for some time between Saiful Islam, the president of Savar Thana BNP, and Tanzil, the cousin of Sohail Ibn Hasib, a former chairman of Banogaon Union, over the land of North Sea Eco City. The matter had been causing tension in the area for several days.
 
Ashraful Islam, the Managing Director of North Sea Eco City, claimed that Saiful Islam had been demanding a bribe of 40 lakh taka from his company. He also mentioned that Saiful Islam had previously vandalized his office twice over the same demand, for which a case had been filed. Ashraful stated, "On Wednesday, after I refused to give the money, Saiful Islam sent hired goons to attack and beat up 10 of my staff members and loot and vandalize our office."
 
On the other hand, Saiful Islam, the president of Savar Thana BNP, said, "The local Awami League leaders and activists regularly hang out at the housing company and even participate in rallies. When we protested, we became the victims of this attack. A section of our supporters has organized a human chain demanding the arrest of the attackers."
 
Savar Model Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Jewel Mia confirmed the dispute over North Sea Eco City land between Saiful Islam and another party. He stated that the conflict led to the clash, and both sides have filed complaints. He assured that an investigation is underway, and appropriate action will be taken.
