Lakshmipur, Oct 10 (V7N) – In a shocking incident, a mother and daughter were brutally murdered by unidentified assailants in their home at West Sreerampur village under Chandipur Union of Ramganj upazila on Thursday night. The attackers also looted valuables and gold ornaments worth nearly Tk 50 lakh.

The victims were identified as Julekha Begum, 55, wife of local businessman Mizanur Rahman, and her 20-year-old daughter Tanha Mim, a college student.

According to the victims’ son, Forhad Hossain Rabbi, he had gone to their family shop in Sonapur Bazar with his father earlier in the day. Around 8:30 p.m., he returned home and found the main gate open and the rooms ransacked. “I called out for my mother and sister, but no one answered. When I entered their room upstairs, I found them lying on the floor in a pool of blood,” he said.

Family members suspect the incident may be linked to recent purchases of around 10 bhori (about 116 grams) of gold ornaments ahead of Forhad’s upcoming wedding. “The killers might have targeted the family for the gold,” said Golam Mortuza Mamun, the victims’ son-in-law.

Officer-in-Charge of Ramganj Police Station, Md. Abdul Bari, confirmed that the incident appeared to be a case of robbery followed by murder but said police were investigating all possible motives. “The bodies have been recovered and will be sent for autopsy,” he added.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Hossain Mohammad Raihan Kazemi said, “We are investigating whether the motive was robbery or another issue. The perpetrators will be identified and brought to justice soon.”
