The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Bangladesh Police has confirmed that no money was lost in the robbery at the Sonali Bank branch in Bandarban's Ruma.

According to Additional DIG Shah Newaz Khaled, an official of CID Police Chattogram Range, two crime scene investigation teams from Cox's Bazar collected all evidence from the bank and thoroughly examined the vault. He stated, "A total of Tk1.59 crore was kept in the vault here. All the money is still in the vault. The vault could not be broken. It is intact."

Armed robbers, suspected to be associated with the militant outfit Kuki Chin, attacked the Sonali Bank's Ruma branch around 8:00 pm on April 2nd, kidnapping its manager. Within 15 hours of this incident, two branches of Sonali Bank and Krishi Bank were targeted in Thanchi of Bandarban.

The robbers looted approximately Tk2.5 lakh from Krishi Bank's Thanchi branch and Tk15 lakh from Sonali Bank's Thanchi branch. However, the exact amount stolen from Sonali Bank's Ruma branch remains unclear.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal confirmed the involvement of the militant outfit Kuki Chin in the bank robberies at Ruma and Thanchi. He stated that the group also targeted police constables, bank guards, and ansars, besides looting cash and firearms.

Police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and, if necessary, the Bangladesh Army are conducting operations against Kuki Chin and other militant outfits. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and other high officials are currently in Bandarban to address the situation.

Regarding border killings, the minister mentioned ongoing discussions with India to prevent such incidents, highlighting that individuals involved in illegal activities from both countries often fall victim to these incidents.
