Rajshahi, Aug 26 (V7N) - An extortion case has been filed against Shahriar Alam, a former State Minister and ex-MP of Rajshahi-6 (Bagha-Charght), along with 40-50 unidentified individuals. The complaint names 39 individuals.
On Sunday (August 25), Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Bakar Siddique of Bagha Police Station confirmed the filing of the case.
He reported that the complaint was lodged late Saturday night by Muklesur Rahman Mukul, a 55-year-old resident of New Pora village in Bagha upazila.
The complaint alleges that on the night of August 3, at around 10 p.m., Shahriar Alam, along with Arani Union Chairman Rofikul Islam, Arani Municipality Mayor Mukhtar Ali, Shahriar's personal assistant Sirajul Islam, former District Chhatra League President Roknuzzaman Rintu, and 35 others, stopped Muklesur Rahman on the road. They allegedly threatened him with a pistol and demanded 10 lakh taka in extortion. When Muklesur refused, they reportedly forcibly took 50 thousand taka from him and threatened to kill him if he reported the incident.
OC Abu Bakar Siddique mentioned that the accused are currently in hiding. An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) has been assigned to investigate the case and will take legal action based on the investigation’s findings.
