Naogaon, Aug 31 (V7N) - Abdullahil Kafi, secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh's Sapahar Upazila unit and an assistant teacher at Al Helal Islami Academy and College, has died from injuries sustained during a mugging attack.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Friday as Kafi and a companion were returning to Sapahar Upazila town from Ashrond Bazar on a motorcycle. According to Palash Chandra Debnath, officer-in-charge of Sapahar Police Station, the pair was ambushed near Syedpur Bridge by muggers who blocked their path with a rope. The attackers forcibly removed them from the motorcycle, dragged them into a nearby mango orchard, and assaulted them, stealing their money and mobile phones.

Kafi's companion survived due to wearing a helmet, but Kafi suffered severe head injuries. He was initially taken to Sapahar Upazila Health Complex but was later transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as his condition worsened. Despite medical efforts, Kafi passed away at around 3 p.m. on Saturday.

A case of murder and robbery has been filed in connection with the attack, said the OC.
