Pabna, Sep 03 (V7N) - In Pabna, a joint team from RAB-12 and RAB-3 has apprehended Nasir Bhandari, also known as Nafis (30), one of the accused in the case involving the murder of two students by an Awami League leader during an anti-discrimination student protest. With his arrest, three suspects in the case have now been detained.
Nasir, from Noldaha village in Pabna Sadar Upazila, is the son of Mukhtar Bhandari. He is a key accomplice of Abu Sayeed Khan, the primary accused in the student murder case, and is the eighth accused in the case.
During a press briefing at the RAB Pabna camp on Tuesday (September 3), Company Commander Major Ehteshamul Haq Khan revealed that, following confidential tips and with the aid of technology, a combined team from RAB-12 and RAB-3 conducted a raid in Hazari Bagh, Dhaka, on Monday and captured Nasir. Following his confession, a revolver and three rounds of ammunition were recovered from him in Pabna early Tuesday morning.
Major Ehteshamul Haq Khan further stated that Nasir admitted his involvement in the incident during preliminary questioning and was identified in video footage. He has been remanded to jail by the court.
Previously, on August 4, during an anti-discrimination student protest at Traffic Mor in Pabna town, two students, Mahbub Hasan Niloy (14) and Zahidul Islam (19), were killed in a shooting by Awami League leaders.
On August 11, Zahidul Islam's father, Dulal Uddin, filed a murder case at Pabna Sadar Police Station against Abu Sayeed Khan, the organizational secretary of the Sadar Upazila Awami League and former chairman of Bhadara Union Parishad.
The case also named 103 individuals, including former MP of Pabna Sadar constituency Golam Faruk Prince, district Awami League President Rezaul Rahim Lal, former municipal mayor Sharif Uddin Pradhan, former mayor Kamrul Hasan Mintu, and district Jubo League Joint Convener Shibly Siddique. Following the filing of the case, two suspects were arrested and sent to jail by the police.
