Sylhet, Sep 04 (V7N) - A major controversy has arisen in Sylhet due to a fraudulent case filed under the Explosives Act. Reports of violence, killings, and lawlessness related to the anti-discrimination student movement in Sylhet have been widely covered in both online and print media.

It appears that a syndicate is using false accusations to target innocent people, branding them as Awami League leaders, and extorting large sums of money by leveraging personal grudges. This syndicate is reportedly linked to a few lawyers in the court area and self-styled BNP activists.

Accusations have emerged that these brokers are filing false cases in exchange for large sums of money, involving both police stations and courts. Many of these fabricated cases involve prominent figures, including former ministers and local leaders, and even journalists and newspaper editors.

For example, on August 29, an individual named Md. Imran Ahmed, claiming to be a BNP activist, filed a case against 361 people under the Explosives Act at the Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Court. However, the case lacked critical details such as the complainant’s address, party affiliation, and National ID number. The case included notable figures like former MPs Abdul Momen, Shafiqul Rahman Chowdhury, and Habibur Rahman, among others. The editor of Weekly Boichitro Sylhet, Abul Kashem Rumon, was also falsely listed as an accused Awami League leader.

Upon noticing these discrepancies, Rumon and his team began an investigation, discovering that the case documents were forged with fake signatures and stamps. The alleged lawyer, Paritus Pal Chowdhury, denied any involvement and claimed that his signature and stamp were forged. No records of this case were found in the official court registry.

Local residents have been unable to locate Imran Ahmed, suggesting that he might not exist. The case has attracted considerable attention and criticism, with concerns about its impact on the upcoming elections. Many believe that these false cases are damaging the BNP’s reputation.

Authorities are investigating the matter, and several victims have filed complaints with law enforcement. Abul Kashem Rumon of Weekly Boichitro Sylhet condemned the false accusations, stating that he has never been involved in any political party activities and has always worked for the public good.
