Rajshahi, Sep 26 (V7N)- Continuous heavy rainfall since Wednesday morning has submerged low-lying areas of Rajshahi city, leaving roads flooded and many homes waterlogged. Knee-deep water has accumulated in various parts of the city, causing significant disruption to transportation and daily activities.

Areas such as the Padma residential zone and Terokhadiya have been particularly hard-hit, with rainwater mixing with sewage from blocked drains, flooding streets and turning major roads into impassable stretches. Water has entered homes in several neighborhoods, particularly in the city’s lower regions, exacerbating the crisis.

The situation in areas like Terokhadiya Stadium Road and Baharampur has been described as a "deadlock" whenever it rains for even a short duration. Despite substantial development investments in the city over the past two years, local residents continue to face severe waterlogging issues after heavy rains. Akbar Hossain, a resident of Terokhadiya, lamented that while the rain is much needed, the city’s drainage system remains inadequate, turning the welcome showers into a public disaster.

The recent rains are attributed to weather irregularities, as the monsoon season had been largely dry. This unusual weather pattern has led to heavy rains during Ashwin, typically a dry season. As the city grapples with flooded streets, the movement of vehicles—including motorcycles, rickshaws, and auto-rickshaws—has slowed, with some roads becoming dangerous due to hidden potholes and ditches.

Residents are calling for immediate action to address the ongoing drainage and waterlogging issues, which have turned a much-needed rainfall into a source of widespread inconvenience and risk.
