Earlier, the government established a seven-member probe committee to investigate the unrest in Khagrachhari and Rangamati. The committee was instructed to submit its findings within two weeks.

The violence, which erupted on September 18, resulted in four deaths and several injuries, following a dispute over alleged theft in Khagrachhari. Several homes and shops were set ablaze during the unrest.
