Chittagong, Sep 30 (V7N)– A devastating fire erupted aboard the oil tanker Banglar Jyoti in the Karnaphuli River near Chittagong’s Dolphin Jetty around 11 am on Monday. The tanker, owned by Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, was docked at the time of the fire.
Seven fire service units, along with teams from the Coast Guard, Navy, and the port fire brigade, are actively working to control the blaze. The ship was transporting crude oil to the state-owned Eastern Refinery when the fire broke out.
Eastern Refinery’s Deputy General Manager (DGM) AKM Naeemullah confirmed that all crew members safely evacuated the vessel following the incident. The cause of the fire remains unclear at this stage, as fire service officials are still investigating.
The Banglar Jyoti plays a crucial role in transporting crude oil from the outer anchorage to Eastern Refinery's jetty. Efforts to extinguish the fire are ongoing as emergency teams continue their work to prevent further damage.
