Chittagong, Sep 30 (V7N) – Two bodies have been recovered from the oil tanker Banglar Jyoti after a devastating fire broke out in the Eastern Refinery area of the Karnaphuli River in Chittagong. The fire, which erupted around 11 a.m. on Monday, was brought under control after more than two hours of effort by multiple fire service and civil defense units.

Deputy Assistant Director of Agrabad Fire Service, Mohammad Abdullah, confirmed that the bodies were recovered after the fire was extinguished in the afternoon. Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC), the owner of the tanker, stated that three crew members are still missing.

Executive Director (Technology) of BSC, Engineer Mohammad Yusuf, noted that efforts are underway to locate the missing individuals.

The Banglar Jyoti was docked at Dolphin Jetty and is typically used to transport crude oil from the outer anchorage to the Eastern Refinery jetty. The fire-fighting operation involved not only the fire service but also teams from the Coast Guard, Navy, and port authorities.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
