Kalapara, Oct 03 (V7N)- For years, the residents of West Londa village in Dhankhali Union , Kalapara Upazila, have been grappling with the devastating effects of tidal surges, particularly during Amavasya-Purnima and natural disasters. Around 250 families in the area have seen their homes, roads, and farmland regularly submerged, making daily life a struggle. Their children are unable to attend school, and the community is forced to live under inhumane conditions.

In an effort to draw attention to their suffering and demand the construction of a sustainable embankment with sluices, the villagers organized a protest rally on the riverbank at 11 a.m. on Thursday . Both men and women participated in the hour-long protest, standing in waist-deep water and holding placards that expressed their anguish and pleas for government intervention.

Several prominent locals, including Aminul Islam Faku , Abdul Aziz Molla , Md. Shaheen Molla , Md. Sohail Molla , and victimized farmers such as Md. Mosharaf Howlader , Bellal Hossain , Md. Halima Ayesha , and Mehdi Hasan , spoke during the rally. They expressed their deep frustration, stating, "We can no longer endure this unbearable suffering. We plead with the government to construct a dam with sluices to protect us from the relentless tidal floods."

The protest underscored the urgency of building a permanent embankment to protect the villagers from the frequent inundation of their lands and homes. Without immediate action, these families will continue to face severe disruptions to their livelihoods, education, and overall well-being.

The community is hoping their voices will be heard by the authorities, bringing much-needed relief and security to the village of West Londa.
