Netrakona, Oct 06,V7N- Continuous rains from the monsoon, combined with upstream landslides, have caused water levels to rise across all major rivers in Netrakona, leading to flooding in various areas. Crop lands in Kalmakanda and Durgapur upazilas, located in the northern part of Netrakona, have been submerged due to the water flowing in from the hills of India.

As a result, 8 unions in Kalmakanda, 4 unions in Durgapur, and 3 unions in Barhatta have already been affected by the floodwaters, leaving vast areas of aman crop fields waterlogged. Roads have also been submerged, increasing the hardships faced by residents.

Both the Water Development Board (PUBO) and local residents are growing concerned about the potential for widespread flooding if the situation persists for a few more days. Water levels in the Ubdhakhali River at Kalmakanda point, the Kangs River at Jaria point, and the Dhanu River at Khaliajuri point have all risen significantly.

Sarwar Jahan, the Executive Engineer of the District Water Development Board, stated, "The water levels in the Kans and Ubdhakhali rivers have risen the most. The Jaria point is expected to cross the danger level by tomorrow morning. However, water levels may start to decrease from tomorrow afternoon."
