Sirajganj, Oct 08 (V7N) — In a major breakthrough, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-12) has arrested Nahid Sheikh (27), a fugitive sentenced to life imprisonment in connection with the abduction and murder of Shamim Sheikh in Sirajganj. Nahid, who had been on the run, was apprehended on Monday night in a joint operation conducted by RAB-12 and the intelligence wing of RAB headquarters in the Rajendrapur Chowrasta area of Gazipur.
According to a press release issued by RAB-12's Lt. Commander (BN) M Abul Hashem Sabuj on Tuesday morning, the arrest was made around midnight in collaboration with RAB-1 and the Gazipur Metropolitan Police. Nahid was taken into custody near a tea shop on the Mymensingh-Dhaka highway, and one mobile phone was seized from him during the operation.
The crime dates back to June 25, 2016 , when Shamim Sheikh , an employee of Alauddin Store in Sirajganj town, was abducted and later killed. His body was discovered in Ullapara the following day. Following the incident, Shamim’s father, Shamsul Haque , filed a murder case at Ullapara Police Station. After a prolonged trial, the court sentenced Nahid Sheikh and two other individuals to life imprisonment and fines for their involvement in the murder and extortion.
Nahid Sheikh, who had been evading capture since his sentencing, has now been handed over to Ullapara Model Police Station for further legal proceedings.
This arrest marks a significant step in delivering justice for the victim's family, with law enforcement agencies continuing their efforts to apprehend criminals evading punishment.
