Barguna, Oct 24 (V7N) – In anticipation of Cyclone Dana, the District Disaster Management Committee held an emergency meeting at the Golden Jubilee Conference Room in the Barguna District Commissioner's office. The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shafiul Alam, focused on preparedness and coordinated efforts to mitigate the cyclone's impact.
During the meeting, it was announced that the district administration will prepare a total of 673 shelters to house residents if the cyclone makes landfall. In addition, 531 metric tons of rice, Tk 10.10 lakh in cash, and Tk 5 lakh for cattle feed have been set aside for emergency distribution. Volunteer groups, including CPB, the Red Crescent, and various NGOs, have been mobilized to assist during and after the disaster. Resources such as 2 lakh liters of pure water and 8 lakh water purification tablets have been stocked, while 42 health teams and 60 mobile units are on standby.
Deputy Commissioner Shafiul Alam stressed the importance of cooperation, stating, "This year, there are no additional representatives other than those from the Union Parishad. Everyone must work with more responsibility and together to face the disaster." He assured the public that the Barguna district administration is fully prepared to handle the situation.
Additional Superintendent of Police Halim, Additional District Magistrate Animesh Biswas, and representatives from various government departments and NGOs were present, along with local media.
Although Cyclone Dana has yet to directly impact Barguna, gusty winds and rainfall were reported in the evening. Coastal and river waters remain calm for the time being, but the district remains on high alert.
