Dhaka, Oct 28 (V7N)- Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur has suspended two teachers and seven staff members due to alleged involvement in the murder of Abu Sayeed, a 12th batch English Department student, during the anti-discrimination student movement. Abu Sayeed was fatally shot by police on July 16 in front of the university.
The decision, made at the university's 108th Syndicate meeting held today, was announced by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md Showkat Ali during a press conference. Additionally, the university has implemented a ban on all party-based political activities on campus.
A three-member fact-finding committee, previously established by the university, investigated the incident and identified those involved in Abu Sayeed's death. Based on the committee's report, the Syndicate has resolved to file legal action against the implicated teachers, staff, and 72 students.
"The Syndicate's decision also prohibits teachers, officials, and employees from being members of any political organization," stated the vice-chancellor. He warned that disciplinary action would follow for anyone found in violation of this rule.
