Dinajpur, Nov 11 (V7N) — After nearly two years, rice import from India has resumed through the Hili land port in Dinajpur. On Monday, around noon, M/s Sairam International imported 90 tons of rice, transported in two trucks via this port, with M/s N Mohammad serving as the customs and forwarding (C&F) agent.
Importer Sirajul Islam stated that the government approved rice imports from India in response to rising rice prices in the domestic market. The resumption of imports is expected to stabilize rice prices and meet local demand.
Earlier in the day, the newly appointed Food Advisor, Ali Imam Majumdar, addressed the media, expressing optimism about a favorable Aman rice harvest, provided there are no natural disasters in November. He emphasized that the government is supporting private sector imports to manage the rice supply, adding that additional government-initiated imports are already at the shipment stage.
The restart of rice imports through Hili is anticipated to help stabilize market prices and ensure an adequate rice supply amid rising demand.
