Rajapur, Nov 16 (V7N) – A consumer market aimed at providing relief to both farmers and consumers was inaugurated in Rajapur of Jhalkathi district on Saturday morning. The initiative, organized by the Upazila administration, was inaugurated by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rahul Chand at the Upazila square.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Assistant Commissioner (Land) Hasan Mohammad Shoaib, Upazila Animal Resources Officer Md. Abdullah, Upazila Agriculture Officer Mosa. Shahida Sharmin Afroz, Officer-in-Charge of Rajapur Police Station Ismail Hossain, and Rajapur Sadar Union Parishad Chairman Nazrul Islam Swapan Talukdar.

Farmers from various parts of the Upazila brought their produce directly to the market, offering items such as vegetables, eggs, and fish at competitive prices. Shoppers welcomed the initiative, noting that many essential goods were priced lower than in regular markets, providing some relief from soaring commodity costs.

According to Upazila Parishad sources, the market aims to:
- Eliminate syndicates that manipulate prices.
- Allow farmers to sell their products directly to consumers, reducing intermediary costs.
- Ensure that essential goods remain within a tolerable price range.

Shoppers expressed hope that regular operation of the market would lead to further price reductions, particularly as more farmers participate. “We want this initiative to continue. It’s a necessary step to break the monopoly of market syndicates,” said one buyer.

UNO Rahul Chand emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “This market has been launched to directly connect farmers with consumers, aiming to eliminate market manipulation and alleviate public suffering. We are committed to maintaining this market for the welfare of both farmers and the community.”

This initiative is expected to play a significant role in stabilizing local commodity prices and supporting the livelihoods of farmers in Rajapur.
