Tangail, Aug 10 (V7N) – In a unified call for justice and press freedom, the Tangail Journalists’ Union organized a human chain and protest rally condemning the brutal murder of journalist Tuhin in Gazipur. The event took place at 12 PM on Saturday, (Aug 9) at the Tangail Central Shaheed Minar premises.

Journalist Tuhin, a correspondent of the national daily “Protidiner Kagoj,” was recently killed in Gazipur in a manner that journalists and civil society leaders are calling a direct attack on media freedom and freedom of expression.

The protest saw participation from a wide range of stakeholders, including former Tangail Press Club President Khan Mohammad Khaled; President of the Tangail District Journalists’ Union and “Dinkal” journalist Shamsul Alam Shamim; General Secretary and journalist of NTV and “Amader Desh” Mahabbat Hossain; President of Civil Society Forum Hamidul Haque Mohon; President of the Business Unity Alliance Labu; and local journalists, teachers, and leaders of various social organizations.

During the rally, speakers strongly condemned the daylight killing, calling it an act of intimidation intended to silence the press. “This incident is not just a murder, but a severe blow to democracy and press freedom in Bangladesh,” one speaker said. The speakers demanded that the perpetrators be tried in a special tribunal and handed the maximum punishment to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.

In addition to seeking justice for Tuhin, speakers also called on the government and law enforcement agencies to take urgent and effective measures to ensure the safety and protection of journalists across the country.

At the conclusion of the protest, participants offered deep condolences to the family of the slain journalist and reiterated their unwavering commitment to continue reporting fearlessly, despite the growing threats against members of the press in Bangladesh.
