Dhaka, Nov 17 (V7N) - Dinajpur residents are preparing for harsher winter conditions as temperatures dropped to 14.1°C on Sunday morning, accompanied by dense fog and cold winds that intensified the chill.

Tofazzal Hossain, head of the Dinajpur Regional Weather Observatory, reported that temperatures are likely to decline further in November. “The cold is expected to intensify in December, with potential cold waves occurring between late December and early January,” he stated.

Situated close to the Himalayas, Dinajpur usually experiences winter earlier than other parts of Bangladesh. On Saturday, the district recorded a temperature of 16.8°C, down from 18.8°C noted on both Thursday and Friday.

Sunday morning saw a dense fog blanket the region, with sunlight appearing around 8:30 a.m., though it lacked warmth. Continuous cold winds since Saturday afternoon have further worsened the chill.

The early onset of winter has already begun to impact the lives of locals and farmers.

Surendra Roy, a senior resident from Kalitala in Dinajpur Sadar Upazila, remarked, “The cold wind amplifies the severity of the chill. Winters are particularly challenging for the elderly like us.”

Farmers are expressing concern over potential crop damage.

Parash Chandra Sarkar, a farmer from Gopalpur, said, “The cold and fog pose significant risks to our crops, including potatoes, tomatoes, and Boro rice. We fear considerable losses due to the adverse weather.”
