Dhaka, Dec 08 (V7N) – The minimum temperature in Dinajpur dropped to 10.1°C on Saturday, marking the coldest day of the season, according to the Dinajpur Meteorological Office.

With a humidity level of 93% and wind speed at 1 km/h, residents are bracing for a harsh winter. Tofazzal Hossain, head of the Dinajpur Meteorological Office, indicated that the region might experience further drops in temperature this month, possibly accompanied by cold waves.

Although the sun appears during the day, cold conditions persist, with dense fog and chilly northern winds making evenings and mornings particularly severe. Vehicles are navigating through foggy conditions with headlights, while poor visibility has led to an increase in road accidents.

The intense cold is disproportionately affecting the poor and working-class population, many of whom cannot afford adequate warm clothing. Laborers are finding it difficult to start work early due to the biting cold, and hospitals are seeing a rise in cases of cold-related illnesses, particularly among children and the elderly. Common ailments include pneumonia, bronchitis, and breathing difficulties.

People living near riverbanks, especially those from low-income backgrounds, are enduring extreme hardship. There is a growing demand for government intervention to provide warm clothing to alleviate their suffering.
