Dhaka, Jan 14, (V7N) - Blankets have been distributed among the poor in Mongla to help them cope with the winter cold. The distribution program was held on Tuesday afternoon at the Mithakali Union Parishad and was graced by Upazila Executive Officer Afia Sharmin as the chief guest. During the event, she personally handed over blankets to 150 men and women. Mithakali UP Chairman Utpal Kumar Mandal and other local dignitaries were also present. Afia Sharmin mentioned that these government-provided blankets are being distributed in phases among the poor in six unions and urged the affluent members of society to extend their support to those suffering from the winter cold.

In addition to Mongla, the District Red Crescent Society in Jhalakathi has distributed blankets to more than 400 cold-stricken people. The distribution took place in front of the Red Crescent Society office, where District Commissioner Ashrafur Rahman handed over the blankets on Tuesday afternoon. Notable attendees included Additional Deputy Commissioner Kawsar Hossain, Upazila Executive Officer Farhana Yasmin, Press Club President Kazi Khalilur Rahman, and BSCIC Deputy Manager Ari Asgar Nasir. Officers and members of the Red Crescent Society were also actively involved in the distribution.

During the event, Deputy Commissioner Ashrafur Rahman emphasized the government’s efforts to provide adequate winter clothing to the underprivileged, ensuring that they do not suffer in the cold. He also called on all sections of society to come forward and support the disadvantaged, ensuring no one is left to endure the harsh winter alone.

These initiatives reflect a collective effort between the government and humanitarian organizations to provide relief to those in need and highlight the importance of community involvement in supporting vulnerable populations during difficult seasons.
