Chittagong, Jan 17 (V7N) — The MV Golden Star has docked at Chittagong Port, carrying 22,000 metric tons of Atap rice imported from Myanmar on a government-to-government (G2G) basis.

This marks the first consignment of rice imported from Myanmar during the tenure of the interim government, according to a press release issued by Imdad Islam, Senior Information Officer and Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Food, on Friday.

The press release stated that preparations are underway to unload the rice. Samples will be collected, and physical tests conducted before unloading begins. The ministry has assured that all necessary arrangements for this process have been made.

Earlier this year, on January 11, the MV SDR Universe brought 26,935 metric tons of rice from Kakinada Port in Andhra Pradesh, India, under an open tender agreement.

The government continues its efforts to maintain a stable supply of essential commodities, ensuring food security amid the challenges faced by the interim administration.
