Sundarban, Jan 20, (V7N) - Forest officials have seized 25 kilograms of deer meat and poaching traps from the Jongra area of the Sundarbans. According to Deepan Chandra Das, the Range Officer of the Eastern Sundarbans Division’s Chandpai Range, the operation was conducted on Sunday afternoon based on a tip-off. The forest guards launched a raid behind the Jongra patrol camp in the deep forest area.
Upon noticing the presence of the officials, the poachers quickly fled into the forest. However, the officials managed to recover 25 kilograms of deer meat, including the head, legs, and skin. In addition, they seized nearly half a kilometer of deer poaching traps made from rope.
Forest Officer Deepan Chandra Das stated that while no arrests were made during the operation, a case has been filed under the Forest Act. He also mentioned that efforts to identify and apprehend the poachers are ongoing.
