MANIKGANJ, Jan 23, (V7N) – Ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia route in the Padma River resumed this morning following a 3.5-hour suspension caused by dense fog, according to the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC).
Nasir Mahmud Chowdhury, Deputy General Manager of Paturia Ghat, reported that five ferries, including Beer Shreshtha Motiur Rahman, Dhaka, Keramot Ali, Kopoti, and Beer Shreshtha Jahangir, were held at Paturia Ghat. Three ferries, Beer Shreshtha Ruhul Amin, Shaheed Borkot, and Vigar, were stranded at Daulatdia Ghat, while two others, Hasna Hena and Shah Poran, remained anchored mid-river.
The movement of ferries on this route resumed at 7:30 am as the fog cleared, restoring the crucial link for passengers and goods transportation.
Disruption on Aricha-Kazirhat Route
Similarly, ferry operations on the Aricha-Kazirhat route in the Jamuna River were halted for 4 hours and 50 minutes, starting at 1:40 am due to the dense fog enveloping the riverbed.
According to Md Abdullah, Manager of BIWTC Aricha Ghat, the fog lifted by 6:30 am, allowing ferry services to resume.
Dense fog during the winter season frequently disrupts ferry services across Bangladesh, causing delays and inconveniences for travelers and transport operators. The resumption of services this morning helped ease the congestion and restored connectivity on these vital waterways.
