Pabna, Mar 23 (V7N)– Allegations of false charges and political targeting have surfaced against the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Aminpur Police Station in Sujanagar Upazila, Pabna, following the jailing of a local Chhatra Dal leader, Ashiqur Rahman Ashiq.

Relatives, party leaders, and activists have organized protest marches and human chain programs, demanding Ashiq's release and accusing OC Syed Alamgir Hossain of fabricating the case.

"Syed Alamgir Hossain, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Aminpur Police Station in Sujanagar Upazila of Pabna, has been accused of sending a Chhatra Dal leader named Ashiqur Rahman Ashiq to jail on a false case," a protest leader stated.

Protesters claim Ashiq, a former joint convener of Sagarkandi Union Chhatra Dal, was actively involved in an "anti-discrimination movement" and was targeted by the OC due to his political affiliations. They allege that while Ashiq was initially detained under Section 54, the OC later filed a false case against him, falsely labeling him as a Chhatra League member.

"They claim that Ashiq had originally spoken against the OC. He had referred to the OC as an ally of the fascist Awami League. Because of this, OC Alamgir is harassing Ashiq with a false case," a protest spokesperson explained.

Furthermore, protesters accused the OC of harassing BNP members and accepting bribes to falsely implicate them in cases related to the "anti-discrimination movement."

During a human chain protest in front of the Pabna Judge Court on Sunday, March 23, speakers demanded Ashiq's immediate release, threatening a larger movement if their demands are not met.

"They demanded the immediate release of former joint convener of Sagarkandi Union Chhatra Dal Ashiqur Rahman Ashiq, who was arrested in a false case. Otherwise, they warned that a larger movement would be launched," a protest report stated.

In response to the allegations, OC Alamgir Hossain denied any wrongdoing. He asserted that Ashiq was arrested during a joint forces operation and that the case was filed according to their instructions. He also claimed that Ashiq has four other cases pending against him, including weapons charges.

"Ashiq was arrested in a joint force operation. As per their instructions, a case has been filed and he has been sent to jail. There are four cases against the arrested Ashiq, including weapons," the OC stated.

The OC further suggested that the allegations against him stemmed from internal conflicts within the local BNP, with Ashiq reportedly shifting allegiances between different factions.

"The OC claims that false allegations are being made against me due to the conflict between these two groups of the local BNP," a police source confirmed.

The situation underscores the ongoing tensions between political groups in the region and raises concerns about the potential for politically motivated arrests.
